The NVG portal has been developed to give support to the following communities.
Computational Chemistry & Biology
Life science is still one of the main research focuses in most of the Southeast Asian countries. The current trend shows that more researchers from this community are moving towards computational science. Hence, this community becomes the main target for the planned Scientific Gateway.
Users' communities from Engineering domain generally have adequate skills in running their simulation/application in High Performance Computing. However, most of the users rely on commercial/licensed Engineering software that is costly and has some limitation in the number of users and hardware (i.e. servers). By providing a science gateway as the entry point to the open access DCI, there is a high potential of opening new opportunities for high quality open source software as the alternative to the commercial software. Hence, it could attract more potential users to access the existing DCI.
Creative industry (i.e. Multimedia) is one of the areas that are actively supported by some of the Southeast Asian countries' government (e.g. Malaysia). Hence many academic institutions offer programmes in this field of study. However, some activities require decent hardware for rendering and not every academic institution can afford this requirement. By providing a science gateway as the entry point to open access DCI, it can solve this problem and there is a high potential of opening new opportunities in the creative industry
